This past Thursday, Magenic hosted a Business Intelligence Summit in Chicago. We had some customers, partners, and consultants present on the role that business intelligence has in their worlds. It was great to see our customers talk about how their projects were implemented and how we overcame both business and technology challenges.
Our speakers included Huron Legal Senior Director Scott Curtis and Bally Total Fitness Senior IT Director Arusha Goyal. They provided a huge amount of applied BI insight as they have been working though initiatives at their companies. Besides our customers, Chiavetta Management Advisors President & CEO Keith Chiavetta presented on the value of business intelligence.
Here is a sampling of the insights overheard at the Summit:
- "Aligning business and IT is key for corporate strategy. IT should be involved right away."
- "BI questions are never all answered. Every answer leads to the next question."
- "The move to self-service BI is the way to go."
- "Gone are the days of long BI projects. They must be actionable right away."
- "We are changing what we do in the field by delivering Microsoft BI on the iPad, PDAs, etc."
The BI Summit presentations wrapped up with Magenic Principal Consultants Aaron Lowe and Ted Krueger showing a demo of the new Power View functionality that is coming in Excel 2013. After they were done, a panel of all of the speakers convened to field questions from the audience. This was a beneficial time for all attendees, as the panel was able to provide some guidance for projects and politics from many perspectives. Overall, the BI Summit was a great opportunity to network and learn about implementing BI into your business.
