On Saturday, March 9, 2013, consultants from Magenic spoke and volunteered at the first SQL Saturday ever in the Philippines.

Over the next two months, March and April, Magenic data professionals will be involved in SQL Saturdays in Costa Rica and in the Philippines.

This past Thursday, Magenic hosted a Business Intelligence Summit in Chicago. We had some customers, partners, and consultants present on the role that business intelligence has in their worlds. It was great to see our customers talk about how their projects were implemented and how we overcame both business and technology challenges.

For technologists, SQL Server 2012 is a treasure trove of technical goodies. There are a number of blogs describing these technical features, including the Magenic BI blog. A quick review of these blogs makes it clear that Business Intelligence (aka BI) is a major focus of SQL Server’s latest result.

With all the knowledge the consultants at Magenic possess, it’s too bad they don’t try and spread that with others. Wait a minute…they do! In fact, many of them keep their own blogs in order to do so. We like to keep track of their writing and highlight some of the great posts that these Magenicons have put together. A frequent question for enterprise executives is: why do I need BI? Occasionally, I have to put elaborate presentations together showing what BI is and how it fits each company. However, when it comes to financial services, and more specifically the banking industry, there are only two lines that are really needed: 1. Regulatory Reporting, 2. Risk Management.

The long wait is now over, SQL 2012 has finally been released! No more Code Name Denali. No more CTP 0. The next question, though, is what do we do with it? I am sure just about all CTOs, CIOs, IT managers and directors have already started to ask why they should upgrade, migrate, develop on, or purchase SQL 2012.

We are coming up to the end of “Launch Month” for SQL Server 2012. On March 7, Launch Day, I published the first five reasons I was excited. In honor of the local SQL Launch in Minneapolis, I thought I would add to the list. So, in no particular order here are five more reasons I am excited about SQL Server 2012 that should excite you as well.

With thundering applause, SQL Server 2012 is released to manufacturing! OK, it may not have been that exciting for most but for SQL Server professionals, a new release event is always an exciting and critical step in the evolution of SQL Server. With each release of SQL Server, we’ve seen great advancements in what is offered as an overall complete and powerful database engine and feature set.
