The Challenge
Locked into a third-party reporting system, an enterprise healthcare solutions provider decided to reduce reporting cost to its customers. The existing reporting system was used to maintain more than 65 different reports, ranging from simple to very complex with most of the reporting business logic inside the report itself.
Because they were using third-party software, our client was required to pay excessive licensing fees. These fees would have forced them to charge their customers more for the off-the-shelf product which they were in the process of pushing to market. Desiring an improved user experience and more competitive cost, the healthcare provider decided to move from its existing reporting solution to a more cost-effective solution.
Excessive licensing fees driving up cost.
Magenic foundation value focus.
The Solution
The client chose to use Microsoft’s SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2 platform as a way to reduce cost to customers. To shorten time to market, the client needed a solutions provider who understood the technology behind their application integration needs, and could provide the resources needed to reach their implementation milestones.
Because we were able to immediately understand the desired technology, and also provide local consultation services, the client elected to engage Magenic for the project. Our global resources were able to provide continuous development, accelerating the process and meeting the client’s implementation goals.
Magenic migrated the client’s 65+ reports to Microsoft SSRS and also implemented an open source Health Level 7 messaging system that allowed the core application to process data while reducing maintenance costs.
Migrate to a solution the client will own.
The Result
Utilizing both local and global resources, Magenic was able to not only meet the healthcare provider’s tight schedule, but was also able to complete the project within the client’s desired budget. Magenic’s solution provided a comprehensive scope and eliminated cost issues surrounding licensing fees. The client, who was initially skeptical of using geographically-distributed resources due to a bad experience with a less-proficient vendor, praised both Magenic’s local and global resources at the completion of the project.
In the end, the client’s product got to market on time and at the price they wanted. Magenic’s solution allowed the product to be deployed on a single device, a single server environment, or a hosting facility with multiple servers using a single software stack.
On time, under budget, comprehensive scope.
