3 Key Steps to Applying an Effective QE&A Process

May 14, 2019 // By Magenic

Everyone wants software to be delivered on time, every time, bug free. It might sound too good to be true, but with an effective Quality Engineering and Assurance (QE&A) program in place, you can deliver better software, faster than ever.

In case you may not be familiar with QE&A, the program helps deliver maximum value to your customers. We recently wrote a white paper, “8 Steps to Designing a First-Rate Quality Engineering And Assurance Process,” and we’ll explore the first three key steps in getting the most out of your QE&A process.

Step 1 – Prioritize Your Goals

The first step is prioritizing your business goals both short-term and long-term. Short-term means getting deliveries out by a certain date or competitors will get there first. Long-term goals have costs for maintenance and QE&A development and testing should align. No matter how great your product might be, if it doesn’t meet these two goals, you will be left behind.

Step 2 – Look For Patterns

A good QE&A program can help you identify both chronic and non-chronic issues holding you back. It shows you where the flaws exist, so they aren’t invisible problems anymore, but brought out into the light so your developers can deal with them before the software is released. This step increases efficiency and it will make your product better in the end.

Step 3 – Involving The Right People at the Right Time

Even if you have a good QE&A program in place, it doesn’t help you if you don’t bring that team in before the software is developed. It’s better for the customers and the business if internal teams work together in all facets of your development process, including product planning, design, and functionality. This includes QE&A.

There’s a lot more information that your QE&A process can tell you about the way your organization builds and releases software – and our white paper goes into even greater detail on how to make it the most effective for you. Achieving your business goals requires understanding where the problems live and how to use QE&A in a way that makes sense for your company. Performance engineering has changed the traditional roles of these engineers and testers – don’t be left behind.

In addition to our recent white paper, Magenic offers a QE&A assessment for your organization. We have a strong automation capability as well as a skilled level of testing. Appropriate testing levels include API, UI, non-traditional and human testing. Contact us today to learn how we can help your QE&A program.
