3 Ways to Break Your Organization Out of Analysis Paralysis

June 6, 2019 // By Robert Sirchia

In an era of information overload, it can be daunting to figure out what modernization and data-storage solutions are best for your company. Between public cloud options, private cloud options, and countless service providers, there are endless avenues to explore and choose from. Knowing that you need to make a decision but are overwhelmed by the number of options results in something we call “Analysis Paralysis.”

As noted in our white paper, “Don’t Let Analysis Paralysis Keep You from Modernizing”, psychologist Barry Schwartz says that analysis paralysis stems from the “paradox of choice.” But there are several ways to avoid the anxiety and bottlenecks and modernize faster.

Recognize Pain Points

Keep in mind that the volume and complexity of your data is probably not your biggest pain point – that’s easily managed. Rather, your pain point is probably along the lines of, “How can I sell in a process that makes sense to everyone, from business to IT?” Our suggestion: do a trial run of a small upgrade, analyze the results, and present the insights. That will help you get buy-in and apply a modernization across the organization.

Don’t Overthink It

The beauty of technology is that by jumping in and giving a new process a try, you can always test and adjust as you go. For this reason, we encourage you to stop pouring money into clunky and costly legacy systems, and start experimenting to see what technologies work best for a company of your size.

Bring In Fresh Perspectives

If analysis paralysis is stemming from large egos in your organization that might be unwilling to consider newer, alternative modernization options, bring in a technology consultant to serve as a third party to break the tie. It’s natural for egos to live in a company, but if they start to slow you down, that’s hurting everyone. By bringing in a fresh perspective, you’ll inspire change and modernize faster, delighting both your company and your customers.

If you’d like to dive into more ways to overcome analysis paralysis check out our white paper, “Don’t Let Analysis Paralysis Keep You From Modernizing”. In the past two decades, the market has selected winners and losers based on their software innovation. Those who wield software as a differentiator and move past analysis paralysis have emerged as industry leaders.

If you’re driven to be an industry leader, give us a call. We offer a cloud-readiness assessment that can help your organization determine your pain points, assess your options, and create a road map forward.
