We have three core challenges in product delivery: speed, complexity and misalignment. To remain viable and deliver the righ=t value to the customer, we need to transform the way we think and work. As consultants, we often need to coach our clients and help guide them as we participate together as a team. Here are 5 tips to keep in the forefront for greatest success.
1. Define the WHY and SHARE
- Why this product?
- Why this feature?
- Why this decision?
- What are the outcomes?
Ideally, we are working with a Product Owner that can share the product vision (and perhaps even a roadmap) with the team. By doing so, the end goals become clearer, providing the bigger picture to the team. Often times, Magenic will supplement the team with a Business Analyst to help cultivate client Product Owner skills in plan=ning and story strategy for optimal delivery.
2. Find the CORE business value
- Identify the “steel thread” (imagine a strong thin wire, that is the essence of the business value that will impact the customer) to be delivered, that will drive better business outcome
- Determine what success (outcome) looks like and keep that in sight!
- Evaluate against new information
An expert Product Owner is able to identify the best outcome for their customer by knowing what’s needed and providing well written user stories as the basis for creating functionality. Road mapping as well as regular review sessions are valuable tools in keeping the vision aligned with the need, and end goal of delivering the right product at the right time.
3. Stop reinventing – start REUSING
- Determine the reusable intellectual property (IP)
- Turn reuse of IP into an asset for the client
- Reuse to gain time and efficiency

4. Review EARLY and OFTEN
- Engage everyone involved
- Get constant feedback
- Streamline decisions and approvals
By conducting regular review of the product throug=h Sprint Review meetings with the team (and key stakeholders if desired) the Product Owner can determine if the highest value is being delivered. By working in short increments of time and reviewing the outcome, the Product Owner can adjust direction as needed, sprint by sprint.

- Link people to the work
- Understand the WHY!
This is about creating purposeful collaboration to communicate effectively. Taking time to create clear decision making responsibilities, enables clarity and potentially better outcomes. By creating traceability to the context, and linking people to the work, the team can offer insight and superior sol=utions in overall delivery.
